Chapter One Task Description

1.1About the Translation Project

This translation project was launched by the People’s Posts and Telecom Press in2015, which gathered over 20 translators around the country. Upon therecommendation of her supervisor, the translator participated in this translation teamand finished over 70,000 Chinese words throughout the whole process. With theconcerted effort of multiple parties, the project is drawing to a close and is to bepublished at the end of 2020. It is believed that the appearance of this translatedversion will significantly advance the popularity of radio technology in China.

1.1.1 BackgroundThe history of amateur radio beganwith the foundation of radio or wirelesstechnology. As radio was often consideredmarginal to communication, manyprofessional scientists did not exploit it asthey might. Anyone was allowed totransmit data through radio with no regulation in those days, which left open wide thefield for radio hobbyists. However, as radio started to be commercially available, only those with ham licenses are approved to use the equipment, which drives amateurexperimenters to acquire pertinent knowledge before passing the qualificationexamination in their counties.
